Why I re-named and re-branded my blog two years after launch

If you’ve ever thought about re-naming or re-branding your blog, the thought can be both invigorating and scary. I recently made the choice to do so…

Here’s why:

  1. I felt trapped – My previous name was Fourth Coast Interiors and while this worked when I started my blog it no longer allowed me to thrive. Originally, it made sense. I wanted the blog to revolve around interior design/decor while still  reflecting sustainability and compassion. However, as time went on, I realized I have so much more to say that wouldn’t fit in with the branding of an interior design blog. Thus came Fresh Coast Living which will host a slew of new topics including: recipes, life on the Fresh Coast, my coffee diary, travel, everyday struggles, journeys and more.
  2. I grew… a.k.a. “I want more” (cue Ariel 🎙🦀 ) I was excited and feeling ambitious as I had just quit my 9-5 so I wanted something that would reflect the power house I am… (well, hope to become 😆 🤘🏻 ).  Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a light change. It required a lot of time to change my logo on the site and social media, my profile blurbs, adjust any post in the blog that mentioned the old name, my email marketing, menus, categories, etc. A good amount of work that is still not 100% complete but so worth it! I feel like it was a huge step toward reflecting who I am. Not to mention I haven’t written a post in months and day 1 of the brand change, I’m back at it.
  3. My blog is in a position to do it – I currently have very few visitors and email subscribers (who would have thought this could be a blessing in disguise? 💁🏻) My blog has been on the back burner for a little while now because my 9-5 completely drained me mentally. I’d come home from work, eat and go to bed.. sometimes by 7:30p.m. This meant no consistency in my post schedule, my email campaigns or my social media outreach. So at the end of the day, I hadn’t built a strong enough brand with the previous name that I had to worry about losing a lot of subscribers with the change.
  4. I wasn’t quite sure what I want to do or how to create my voice – I love interior design, decor and DIY. I love sustainable living. I love being a vegan. I love coffee, whiskey and swing music. I am trying to find joy everyday in this crazy journey called life. I do believe your home is a reflection of you and who you are trying to be, but I also believe all aspects of your life can help you thrive.. So until I figure my shit out, I’m keeping my writing slate wide open. 👌🏻

Blogging is one crazy, exciting journey. It takes a lot of work and time so do what you need to do to allow your blog to give you the life you’ve been dreaming of. If that takes a re-name and re-brand… so be it! You can rock this! 👊🏻
